One of the disciplines the is central to harnessing Dynamic Tension (see chapters 6 & 7  in The Power of TED*) is that of telling the truth about current reality.

Jack Welch – the former CEO of General Electric – once wrote in a GE Annual Report: “What determines our destiny is not the hand we are dealt, but how we play the hand.  And the way to play the hand is to see reality for what it is and to act accordingly.”

See reality for what it is.  Determine what supports and is aligned with your envisioned outcome.  Also acknowledge those aspects of current reality that inhibit your forward progress.  What obstacles and problems stand as Challengers that call forth learning and new action to overcome?

By seeing reality for what it is, we can then determine the next baby steps to take.
