As a child growing up, I did not have the good fortune of being read to a lot by my parents, nor was I overly encouraged to pick up a book and read on my own. (That is a bit ironic, given all the writing I do these days.)
Although I certainly knew of Dr. Seuss, I had friend here-and-there who would have one we would read, when we dare (couldn’t resist the Suessian rhyme!).
I recently came across some quotes from some of his children’s books and was reminded how some of them were written in ways that encouraged a Creator Orientation. For instance, the following two quotes come from Oh, the Places You’ll Go!:
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”
It is never too early – or too late – to read and be influenced by books that build our capabilities as Creators.
If you have children or grandchildren, sit down and read books to and with them that are positive and that build and reinforce a Creator Orientation. You will be doing your part in creating Creators.
Do you have other children’s books to suggest that help create Creators? If so, please post them in the comments section here or email them to me: david@powerofTED.com.
